Downtown grand hotel and casino vegas

How did it strike you on arrival?
The Downtown Grand is downtown Vegas’ attempt at a boutique hotel, free of the Vegas hotel mandate for kitschy themes–– unless you count the industrial-chic vibe that’s apparent from the moment you pull up. The hotel still has a casino on the ground floor (and a stylish one at that) but upstairs, the guest rooms are quite modern, if a bit too heavy on the Z Gallerie-esque decor. There are several restaurants and bars to dine at, including Pizza Rock, and a rooftop pool scene. Plus, it’s two quick blocks from the Fremont Street Experience.

Nice. What’s the crowd like?

The good stuff: Tell us about your room.
We stayed in a premium room which has a bright red theme running through it. Red walls, red chairs, red blankets, and strangely enough a white carpet with red swirls. It was spacious and comfortable, but we could hear a lot of noise going on outside.

We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?
Totally comfortable, but not anything we need to rush out and buy for our own home.

How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase?
There’s not much offered in the rooms here beyond the standard amenities. There’s not even a mini-bar. However, the hotel does put bottled water and ear plugs on the nightstand to help you sleep through the noise outside, or maybe even down the hall.

Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down.
One thing we liked about the bathroom is that the sink and the vanity are separate from the shower and toilet. However, the shower has one of the half-glass partitions which are so irksome because one side of your body will always be chilly. The toiletries are Jonathan Adler.

Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word?
Wifi is included in the $ per-night resort fee. It’s mostly strong but can occasionally be slow.

Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you.
Parking is free for hotel guests.

What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay?
